For a whirlwind 52 minutes, John Anthony pulls no punches in his documentary, “No Choice: How HUD Controls Your Property Rights.” If you haven’t tuned into this enlightening slice of contemporary Americana (available on YouTube), it’s not only revealing; it’s dumfounding and according to the YouTube numbers very few have watched. Without exception, the program should be required watching for every local property zoning office throughout our fruited plain. Many Americans who own property, along with their community zoning boards, don’t understand their rights and what you don’t know can be a guaranteed, cold, hard slap in the face.

Too often, the grant monies are too enticing to pass up, but once a locale bends and signs the mandatory compliance agreement, you solely play by HUD rules.

For every HUD grant an Assessment of Fair Housing must be completed, which evaluates race, income, religion and native origin of every resident. Then there’s the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) that is a 377 page minefield of legalize and overt regulation designed to bamboozle and ultimately control. With its maize of compliance reviews and other “interested parties” that include civil rights groups, affordable housing developers and yes, community organizers, all assist in the process.
