On September 11, 2001, two planes were flown into the New York World Trade Centers by Islamic terrorists. This violence shocked America into an acknowledgement of the growing threat of international terrorism, and sparked the Global War on Terror. The U.S. President at the time, George W. Bush, described this “mass murder” as “despicable acts of terror”, and, in his subsequent address to the Nation, assured the American people that their government was doing all that they could to bring those who planned the attacks to justice. Throughout his address, Bush most prominently uses repetition and analogy to help his grieving nation better understand the situation, what will be done in response, and that it is worthy of their defense through war. …show more content…
