WHile this may be a good question, it is idealistic. During the Finches times, desegregation activists were commonly shot and killed due to their viewpoints not lining up with societal norms. Atticus simply did what he had to do to stay in his position without seeming too biased. During the trial, he even tries to apeal to the reasoning of the court. He asks the court “What did she do?

This strong quote proved that Atticus wants people to put aside what they are told and/or what they think of african americans and to put aside differences and just look at the evidence and decide with that and not with his skin color. To remember that person is a person no matter what race they were born
A critical event in the book is when Atticus accepts to defend Tom Robinson, a black man, who is accused of raping Mayella Ewell; however, he is disfavored against by the town due to his race. In the book, Atticus says, “...The only thing we’ve got is a black man’s word against the Ewells’. The evidence boils down to you did--I-didn’t. The jury couldn’t possibly be expected to take Tom Robinson’s word against the Ewells’...” (Lee 117).
Atticus creates an assertive, serious, and persuasive aesthetic in Excerpt 8. He expresses this aesthetic by stating, ”She was white, and she tempted a Negro. She did something that in our society is unspeakable. She kissed a black man. Not an old uncle, but a strong young Negro man.
Atticus motivates people to get past their prejudices and to point out that all people make mistakes, it is human nature, so white people shouldn’t be favored over black people because race doesn’t determine anyone’s actions which shows Atticus's morality he understands, unlike the society, that there is more to people than their race. Scout is bullied at school because her father is defending a black person she is confused why When Scout asked why Atticus was defending Tom Robinson, he replied, “If I didn't, I couldn’t hold up my head in town, I couldn’t represent this county in the legislature, and I couldn’t even tell you or Jem not to do something again” because he wouldn’t be doing his duty (Lee
U.S. Entry into World War 1 There are so many interesting things about World War 1 like all of the battles that took place in the middle of the war. There were all of these countries that were in it and how it changed history. But the number one question is why or how did the U.S. get involved in world War? The United States entered World War 1 because the sinking of the Lusitania, the Zimmerman Telegram, and the Sussex Pledge.
We just looked at how the US is turning it more socialist, and now we are going to look at how Russia turned communist, and how the same thing could happen to the US. To oversimplify Russia’s revolution, it was caused by a people who were rightly angered by the mistreatment of minorities, and wanted to make people equal. To draw a parallel, this anger of mistreatment of minorities is something that is becoming more common in the US, especially in the Democratic Party; if you look on their party platform page, you will see an entire section dedicated to their policies on protecting the rights of women, LGBTQ, etc, and trying to make everyone equal. The parallels between the Russian political landscape right before the revolution and the current US political situation are obviously imperfect, but they are present. Russian Marxists
Atticus being a white men also showed courage by going against the Maycomb people and willingly defended Tom Robinson, a black men. Due to that he was often called N-lover by other white people. Despite of those criticisms given by many of the town’s people, he did his best to defend Tom. He said, "If I didn't I couldn't hold my head up in town, I couldn't represent this country in legislature, I couldn't even tell you or Jem not to do something".(page 75). On page 149, Atticus says : “Son, I told you that if you hadn't lost your head I'd have made you go read to her.
The reason why Atticus defended a black man and did what most everyone would never think of doing is because of justice and civilly going against the norm. The character, a lawyer named Atticus, also endangers not only his own life but his family's, by defending a Negro. He believes he is protecting an innocent man. Even though he is black.
Most people would have turned down this man but Atticus knew it was the right thing to do. There were many reasons that this would be considered a bad idea, mainly because in such a racist and prejudice time and town, people frowned upon treating black people equal. Everyone wondered why he would even consider taking the case ” For a number of reasons, the main one is, if I didn’t I couldn’t hold my head in town, I couldn’t represent this county legislature, I couldn’t even tell you or Jem not to do something again” (100). He had the courage to be himself even when others didn’t want him to be.
Just by defending a black person Atticus is trashed on how horrible he is for doing such a thing. The bigotry about race is the same back then in the book than it is now in modern
Furthermore he defends a black man in court. At the time (and maybe still even now) Maycomb, Alabama, is from our perspective a really racist county, and in this culture it takes a lot of courage to go against the tide and not to judge a black man merely of his skin colour or origin, but instead to put his worries before ones own. Most people in Maycomb, who believe black Tom Robinson is innocent, also believe that there is no chance of winning the case and they lack the courage to risk getting a bad reputation with nothing to gain from it. Atticus is probably the only one whose moral views forbid him to look
He knows they can not just go through life not knowing what 's going on throughout the town. Atticus is not just a normal white male in Maycomb Alabama. He see people for what 's in the inside and not just the outside. The color of your skin does not matter to Atticus. Atticus is a kind hearted man and has strong morals.
Through Atticus, the author presents an argument for equality and racial tolerance. All black people were categorised in this era; they were seen as aggressive, untrustworthy and inhuman. This is completely different
