My rhetorical situation for this argument is to bring to light the corruption of the Michigan Judicial system, focused more on Sobriety Court. My audience is directed towards students and instructors at NMC. My stance is that the Sobriety Court system needs to be more supportive to their partakers. My context is derived from a personal experience with my topic.
The three appeals that can support an argumentative claim are Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. Ethos is the appeal of credibility, why the author can be trusted. For example, I am a credible person to tell about this topic because I have lived through it and experienced what Sobriety Court is like on a family. Logos is the appeal of logistics, this can be with data and statistics, persuading the audience with reason. Such as if I were to list the statistics of those who dropped out in the first month of Sobriety Court. Lastly, pathos is the appeal to emotion. I could give background information of my thoughts and feelings during the police raids of my house and how hard my sisters cried because of the ‘scary’ men and dogs that would search through everything. …show more content…

It gives the author a chance to acknowledge the other side of the argument and have respect for the complexity of an issue. It also shows the reader that you know about this topic. For my claim, an alternate perspective might be: Sobriety Court in Michigan has helped alcoholics and their families and should continue to do their job. I will respond to that by recalling my personal events with Sobriety Court. That it does not help alcoholics because most participants drop out and go into jail where they get out and continue to
