Food is a fundamental part of human life. Not only does it fuel our bodies and our minds, it also shapes the way we experience the world and relate to other people. During this writing prompt, I have realized food played a greater role in my childhood than I thought, and I realized the importance of using rhetoric when entering the conversation of the way food impacts people. I had these realizations once I spent time deeply analyzing the rhetoric used in the article we read and the rhetoric used in the ted talk we watched. I had a very unusual experience with food growing up, I was born with a calcium deficiency that in turn made me severely allergic to all dairy and beef products. Up until my 8th grade year I had never tasted the foods that seemed to be staples in all of my friends lives. I never had pizza, chocolate, mac and cheese, ice cream, hamburgers and so much more. I noticed at a young age that most kids didn’t have to read food labels like I did. Since I was able to read I had learned to read food labels to check and make sure I wasn’t going to get deathly ill. Most teachers and parents didn’t really think much about it when I told them I was allergic to milk they just though “oh another lactose intolerant kid” but in reality a teaspoon of whip cream would start with violently puking and end with me in the emergency room on multiple tubes for breathing. As I stated before my experience with food was starnge but I watched what most kids ate and got to over stuff their stomachs with on a daily basis which I believe fueled how I eat now. After 8th grade my brain kind of went into a state of making up for lost time and started wanting to try everything I had never been able to eat but saw other kids enjoying.
