I’m fairly confident that I at the very least passed the test with a 3, maybe even a 4. I think that I did as well as I usually do on multiple choice, which hopefully means that I got more than half of them right, but there were more than a few questions that I had trouble with and I ended up not being very confident with my answers for them, however on the whole I think I did alright. For the essays, I spent WAY too much time on the DBQ (I went into the rhetorical analysis time in order to finish it) and I didn’t do a very good time synthesising and using the sources. I’m fairly certain that I answered the prompt thoroughly, but I relied too much on outside information and didn’t use many quotes from the sources. For the rhetorical analysis,

English 1010 was an amazing class, during the period that the class was going on I was able to develop my communication skills and become aware of the world around me and how individuals operate according to what the society wants from them. The English 1010 class helped in developing a new aspect of reasoning, analyzing and drawing adequate conclusion. Furthermore I was to know the kind of informations I can take in and avoid wrong assumptions. Hi Lana, You are correct, that is a very good thesis statement. The thesis is properly placed, and it contains three sub-topics. A well written thesis with three sub-topics are very important, it will act as a road map telling the audience what is to come. The thesis statement is perhaps the most crucial element of all in an essay.
In “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry, the author uses diction like abstract diction and details by explaining what he exactly wants in life to demonstrate Walter and his dream. To begin, Hansberry uses diction to demonstrate Walter and his dream by using abstract diction. She does this by explaining how he will give Travis anything for his seventeenth birthday and that he will “hand you the world!” (2.2). This shows that he wants to make his sons life as good as possible.
The author wrote the two chapters in a chronological order to facilitate the understanding of all the events that occurred in the past. Daschuk used sources such as officials’ reports, statistics, and historical documents to support his opinion and give effect to his text. In chapter 6, he used a table to demonstrate the level of deaths. In addition, he included some pictures in order to demonstrate to the readers physically some aspects of his argument. This technique helps him to convince the readers.
In Florence Kelley’s heart wrenching call for awareness of child labor she uses quite a few rhetorical devices. An anaphora is the most recognizable as she’s trying to nail in how she would could be helping the children. Pathos is another of her persuasion methods used in her tone. Kelley also uses a fair amount of imagery throughout the passage. First and foremost, Kelley’s use of an anaphora is what really pulls the audience’s attention.

Past leaders such as Andrew Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Marc Antony are evidence that society does not reward morality and good character in leadership. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability. In history there have been multiple leaders that have used rhetoric, propaganda and charismatic personalities to gain power, despite their morals.
A major theme in A&P is personal freedom. Throughout the story Updike uses metaphor for all elements in the story to implies the theme. At the beginning of the story, Sammy uses sarcastic tone to describe the customers as “sheep” and “houseslaves” which implies he is different from them in mindset. The way how Sammy talks about others shows his intellectual mind. He is not same as Stokesie who wants to be a manager one day.

To strengthen his speech, Reynolds uses past personal experiences and the comparison of objects to others to help prove the theme portrayed throughout the speech.
Kathryn Stockett successfully uses rhetorical devices to get the reader to feel and understand the perspectives of the protagonists. Stockett uses pathos, ethos, and logos in her book, since the book about social injustice. The topics in the book range from inequality of the sexes to social classes and racism, Stockett is successful in getting the reader to reflect while reading the book and the themes of the book have a clear presence. We see Stockett use ethos and pathos in the very first chapters when we learn that Hilly doesn't like Minny and Minny doesn't want to say why at first, but the incident with Ms. Holbrook was affecting her chances of getting a job because of the influence Hilly has over this suburban society. In some instances where Stockett uses ethos, pathos is also included in her writing.
