The Last Child in the Woods, written by Richard Louv, tells the unimaginable truth of how advertisements are changing the outside world, and because of it, parents are giving up their values of “less technology” for a little peace and quiet. Louv tells the story of how it was to be a kid when he was one, and how different his childhood boredom was conquered in the car, from how it is now to explain to the audience that childhood is changing and that parents need to teach their children that there is more to life than just a screen. Louv repeats this concept over and over again, to continuously remind the reader of what parents and or themselves, are doing to their children’s future. If parents keep it up, no one will be paying attention to the outside world. Parents seem to only be able to use technology to keep children occupied, but there are many alternatives. Boredom is constantly getting harder and harder to fix because of technology, children’s attention spends are getting smaller and smaller as time goes on. Louv uses his friend's example to show the reader that the salesmen are expecting their buyer to buy it. Salesmen and women always think they know just what a buyer needs, and then they try to sell it to that person even when they don’t actually need it, they just want to make more money out of it. When they see parents they think that they need a backseat TV, so they try to persuade them into buying the car with the TV’s so they spend more money. All parents have to do is say no, Louv knows this and wants to encourage his readers to say no when asked. If they say no, they will be able to teach their kids to look out the window and actually be able to enjoy
