Information Name: Richard Trenton Chase aka “The Vampire of Sacramento” He was born on May 23, 1950 and died on December 26, 1980. He was raised in a strict household and beaten often by his father. In his teens he became an alcoholic and developed the pleasure of killing animals and starting fires. It was difficult for him to hold onto a relationship in high school, he was diagnosed with an aversion to conventional sex and could only get aroused by expressed rage and violent acts. Chase also developed hypochondria from the excessive alcohol and drug (Marijuana and LSD) use. Chase executed his first murder on December 29, 1977. He murdered 51-year-old Ambrose Griffin with a .22 with a drive-by shooting. It was said to be his “warm up” for the following murders. The second murder happened on January 11, 1978. He walked into the home of Teresa Wallin, who was pregnant at the time, and proceeded to shoot her three times with the .22 rifle. He then drug the body to the bedroom where he raped it while repeatedly stabbing the body. After that he carved out some of the organs and bathed in them and some blood in the victim's bath tub. He then sliced off Wallin’s nipple and drank the blood out of a yogurt container. To finish it off he went to the back yard, found some dog feces, and stuffed the corpse’s mouth full of it. Richard Chase committed his final murders on January 27. This event classifies as a mass murder, since he killed four people. In this event he killed Evelyn Miroth and her six year old son. He also murdered a 22 month old who was being babysat by Miroth and her neighbor Dan Meredith. Like the other murders, they were shot at point-blank range with a .22 handgun and then were brutally raped and eaten by Chase. Capture, Arrest, and …show more content…
When police went to arrest him blenders full of blood and organs were found, along with body parts in tupperware in the refrigerator and a decapitated infant in a box in the back yard. Richard Chase went to trial in 1979 to plead not guilty to six counts of murder. He was going to plead as mentally insane to avoid the death penalty, but was medically cleared as sane during the period of the murders. Chase was convicted guilty. He was found dead in his jail cell by suicide from overdose of antidepressants that were prescribed by a doctor inside the prison. Psychological Profile Richard chase went to a psychiatrist once at a young age, and was told the root of his problems were based off of repressed rage or a mental illness. But, after this first visit, he never returned back for further diagnosis. Therefore, RChase was never medically diagnosed as having any mental disorder. But, if I were to diagnose him with anything it would be him having a personality disorder. I would classify him as having a personality disorder because before his killings started he became very interested in cannibalism, started to neglect personal hygiene, and became very fascinated in other serial killers. Richard Trenton Chase is no longer alive. He committed suicide on December 26, 1980, from an overdose of antidepressants. In 1992, a movie about Chase’s life was released.
