This was important in the sixteenth century because demand for capital investment rose, as did the supply of wealth. Moreover, many settlements in the US, such as Jamestown, was established with the joint-stock company. Protestant Reformation: In the sixteenth century, there were religious, intellectual, cultural, and political upheavals that broke and revived the Catholic Church in Europe. Encomienda was significant because it was meant to be a way to make sure the natives would be taken by the colonist, educated, and come to be civilized. This colony is very significant because it was the earliest English settlement. Headright System: The headright system was used to attract new settlers and to address labor scarcity. It was produced in 1618 in Jamestown.
