Robert Frost once said, “Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.” Robert Frost is one of the most talked about poet in America. He has written numerous amounts of poetry throughout his whole life. He wrote “Fireflies in the Garden”, “Nothing Gold Can Stay”, and “Reluctance” to name a few. Nature influenced mostly all of Robert Frost’s poems. Robert Lee Frost was born March 26, 1874 in San Francisco to William Prescott and Isabel Frost. In 1885, Frost’s father died a sudden death from tuberculosis at the age of 34. Frost attended Lawrence High School and graduated as valedictorian and class poet in 1892. He experimented with his style of setting traditional meters with the natural rhythms of speech. Frost also, wrote using blank verse, sonnets, lyrics, and masques. Other poets, such as T.S. Eliot and Wallace Stevens, experimented with free verse but, Frost was not impressed with free verse. Frost used rhythm to create the distinct sound of New England speech patterns in his poems. (Robert Frost) One poem Robert Frost wrote was “Fireflies in the Garden.” In his poem Frost compares fireflies to the stars in the sky and describes how they are quite similar but not the same. Frost is known for comparing nature to everyday life. For instance, when he is comparing the stars to the sky, he could be talking about how some people may look the same but they are not. For example, when he writes, “Here come real stars to fill the upper skies, And here on earth come emulating flies,” he is differentiating the stars to the fireflies.
