The main point of Robin Hood is known by most everybody, “Take from the rich and give to the poor”, but not everyone knows the actual story. In this essay I will be telling the events of chapters 5-8 in The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood by Howard Pyle. This story is about the adventures of Robin Hood and his merry men. In these few chapters we will see fights, traps, tricks, and more exciting events. This is definitely a very eventful book. Chapter 5 starts out with Robin coming up with a plan to trick the Sheriff for all he’s done to him and his merry men. While Robin’s taking a walk one day, he runs into a butcher. When he decided to join the Sheriff, it was only a joke, but he ended up staying for 6 months. That morning, Little John decided he was going to go back to Sherwood Forest. But first, he wanted to get some breakfast. He went and asked the steward to get him some food and he said no, which made Little John furious. Once he took care of the steward, Little John got himself some food. Right when he was about to eat, the steward told the cook to take care of Little John. The cook said he was going to fight him and Little John agreed to it, but they decide they should eat first. While they were eating, they began to have competitions to see who was the better man. They actually became friends, but still had a fight, which neither won. After all of that, Little John told the cook who he was and that he was going back to Sherwood Forest today and asked if he wanted to come, and the cook said yes. So the cook and Little John set out to Sherwood Forest, taking some of the Sheriff's silver with them. When they showed Robin the stuff they took from the Sheriff, he said they need to return it. So Little John went back to town and tricked the Sheriff into coming to Sherwood with him. Not long after he began his journey, Little John got to a fork in the road and against his better judgment, he decided to take a break and go to the Blue Boar Inn for the night. After a while, Robin realizes that Little John is taking to long and goes looking for him. Little John runs into a man named Arthur O’Bland who was a great fighter and archer. When the two meet, they have a fight and because Little John is out of shape, he lost. What they didn’t know is that Robin had been watching their fight the whole time. He decided he liked Arthur and introduced himself and Little John then asked if he wanted to join the merry men. Arthur was ecstatic because he had heard of, and loved Robin and his merry men, so he said yes. The three of them then went to finish Little John’s
