Many People get bullied so they need courage to stand up for them self. In the book Roll My Thunder, Hear My Cry. Mildred D. Taylor uses Cassie as a courageous charter. Cassie is a courageous charter because She sticks up for her brother and facing her enemy lillian jean Simm's. Cassie proved that she was an outspoken girl.
Courage is being brave and taking the risk of doing something. In the book Witness by Karen Hesse many citizens did not like African-Americans , Jews and Catholics. Leonora Sutter, a character in the book, is a 12-year-old who is African-American and everyday deals with many citizens not liking her because the color of her skin. Through Cassie´s actions she has proved she loves her family, loves the land, and knows that segregation is NOT RIGHT. She knows that equal rights is not an option in that day and age, but she will still try to make a difference in the world.

In the novel, Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry by Mildred Taylor she uses Stacey Logan. He is a very brave boy who has come up with smart plans so he can stand up for what he believes in and his family. Even though Stacey faced many struggles the main ones were when he came up with the idea to break down the bus, he walked T.J home even though T.J. had been a terrible friend to the Logans, and Stacey stayed and watched what happen when the Wallaces went to the Averys to make sure nothing bad happened to him. Stacey 's actions proved that he was a very brave and smart boy, who loved his family and that he was willing to fight for the land and do whatever he could to help save it even willing to take consequences for it.
In the historical fiction novel, Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry, by Mildred D. Taylor, Stacey Logan has the arduous task of deciding who is the better friend, Jeremy Simms or T.J. Avery. Jeremy would be a much better friend than T.J. Stacey should be friends with Jeremy instead of T.J. because Jeremy stands up for the Logans, he cares about the Logans, and he doesn’t care about race. Unlike T.J., Jeremy stands up for Stacey and the Logans when they are in a tricky situation. After Mr. Simms pushed Cassie into the road in Strawberry and forced her to apologize to lillian Jean or else, Jeremy spoke up. In the text it says,“I-I apologized already.’
