Fellow graduates, I want you all to imagine that you are waiting in line for the world’s tallest, fastest roller coaster. Your knees are weak, and your palms are sweaty. The anticipation removes the air from your lungs and the saliva from your mouth. As you near the front of the line, you begin to create excuses to bail out of the ride, but you cant. No matter how hard you try there is nowhere out .You’re stuck here without a choice. A kid, slightly older than you, tells you that it isn’t too bad, and all the other kids assure you you’ll have the time of your life, but you still aren’t convinced. Thankfully, we had and still have the support of our families to prepare us and strap us into that terrifying, yet thrilling ride. Our families have sat beside us, held our hands, and let us scream and cry on their shoulders throughout the course of this ten-year-long roller coaster ride. Even if we don’t show it as much as we should, I know that we are all extremely grateful for the support and encouragement that have given by those close to us. We would not have made it to this point without the endless work and wisdom of the teachers and staff of the Islamic School of Hamilton. You have calmed our fears, even though your tests were the ones that caused them, and have given us a unique experience here at the school, sending us on the ride of a lifetime. You did this not only as teachers and administrators or staff, but also as mentors and great role models. As much as we don’t appreciate having to take three tests in one day or have homework on a weekend, you have successfully challenged us and taught us the meaning of hard work. It’s just as Tim Notke once said, “hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.” Thank you for the endless opportunities you have provided us, and for pushing us to always take on challenges with courage and pride.
