In the famous balcony scene of Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare’s imagery works to create a scene of two forbidden lovers secretly meeting after Lord Capulet’s party. There have been many adaptations of this classic story over the past century, but the recent play version and the 2014 film provide different interpretations of the messages and themes Shakespeare was trying to prevail. But, they also stay true to the character traits of youth and impulsiveness that comes with playing two young lovers. The actress who plays Juliet is youthful and giddy. She portrays a timeless character that girls today can relate to. She leaps without thinking by saying yes to marrying Romeo and failing to recognize the danger in doing so. Kids these days are just as impulsive which is definitely something that a least part of the audience can relate to. On the other hand, the 2014 version of Romeo and Juliet related to Shakespeare's intentions in a different way. Romeo and Juliet in this version showed no youth through their acting. It all seemed very stiff, too romantic and the actors were too old to play their roles. The actors failed to show the true internal conflict between love and family and how impulsive they were. They were too calm when talking to each other. There was no humor which is critical to this conversation because Romeo and Juliet were in love and their happiness should’ve been expressed through their words. The listener couldn’t even understand what they were saying to each other because
