Saint Basil once said “Many a man curses the rain that falls upon his head, and knows not that it brings abundance to drive away the hunger”. Many a time, people curse things intending to bring harm, when in reality they bring a greater good. Such is the case in William Shakespeare’s play, The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. The play tells the story of two forbidden lovers and their feuding families. But some question who actually caused the death of both Romeo and Juliet. Mercutio is to be blamed for the deaths of both Romeo and Juliet.
Mercutio is the one to blame as a result of him putting a curse on both Romeo and Juliet's families. Mercutio states in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, “Or I shall faint. A plague o' both your houses”(III.I 99). After his fight with Tybalt, Mercutio curses both of the families, bringing despair to them at the end of the play. “I could not send it-here it is again-/Nor get a messenger to bring it thee,/So fear were they of infection” (V.II 14-16). This text from the book explains how both of the families are cursed. Friar John could not deliver the important message to Romeo stating that Juliet was still alive, which in the end caused death to both, Romeo and Juliet.

Although this is incorrect, according to the play, a series of events lead to Romeo's and Juliet's demise. He began a duel between Romeo and Tybalt, causing the death of Tybalt. This then results to Romeo being banished which results him and juliet to be separated. Soon, this causes miscommunications and prevents romeo to get the news about juliet taking a potion. Mercutio was the trigger to cause the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he promoted a series of events will holds him
