William Shakespeare's play, The Tragedy of Romeo And Juliet is about the story of two young people who are mortal enemies destined to fall in love. But with their love so strong they both kill themselves because they cannot live without each other. Their true love and their deaths help their families resign from their long fights and help them realize they didn't even know what they were fighting for. Shakespeare uses metaphors and characterization to further the theme of love can be found in the most unexpected of people. In acts 1 &2 of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, one of the themes is that true love can be found in the most unexpected of people. An example of a metaphor is,” Love is a monster for making me fall in love with my worst enemy”(1,5,137-139). This example is a form of figurative language because it is comparing two things by making a direct statement that they are the same. This shows that Juliet is upset because the person she loves is a part of the family which is her worst enemy. Some evidence to back up the theme is when Romeo says,” She outshines the other woman like a white dove in the middle of a flock of crows”(1,5,44-45). In this line, Romeo is talking about how great Juliet is after seeing her for the first time. This relates to the theme because when although Romeo has no idea where Juliet is from he is still able to see the beauty in her. One passage that shows this character's development is when Juliet says,” But my love is grown to such excess I cannot sum up half my wealth”(2.6.33-34). This shows that Juliet's love for Romeo has grown bigger than her whole wealth even if he's an enemy of her family. She then marries Romeo, making her a Montague and a part of her family’s mortal enemy. Another passage that shows how Shakespeare developed Juliet is when she says,” Villan and he may miles asunder”(3,5,81). This shows that Juliet is protecting Romeo, even if he is an enemy to her and her family.
