A tale of conflict, tragedy, and….love? Romeo and Juliet are known for their “love story” and how they sacrificed their lives so they could be together forever, despite their families being enemies for many many years. This romantic play written by Shakespeare was supposed to be a story of intimacy between two teenage kids, but really it does not represent the true meaning of what love is supposed to be. Romeo and Juliet’s relationship was hormonal driven and fueled by their broken hearts. They were immature which ruined what could have been a great representation of love.

They exaggerated on how they felt after seeing each other for the first time. Romeo was apparently heartbroken over his previous “lover” who didn’t love him back. He mourned for many days over her but once he went to the Capulet party and saw Juliet, he completely forgot about his rejection from Rosaline and moved on to another girl. “Who is the girl on the arm of that lucky knight over there?” Even Juliet had a love interaction with a boy named Paris. She was supposed to marry this Capulet but when she saw Romeo, she used him as an option whom she chose for herself. Romeo was like an escape from the reality of her father making all the decisions in her life. “go ahead and charm her, gentle Paris; make her love you. My permission is only part of her decision. If she agrees to marry you, my blessing and fair words will confirm her choice.” After Romeo and Juliet made their love for each other official, they told Friar Lawrence and asked him to wed them. The Friar was hesitant and told Romeo that he thought the only reason he thinks he loves Juliet is because he was just rejected by another girl. Friar thought that Romeo was using Juliet as a comfort option. “Holy Saint Francis, this is a drastic change!
