Were Romeo and Juliet Merely Infatuated of Truly In Love? Romeo and Juliet obviously had an extremely fast paced relationship which brings many to wonder whether they were truly in love or if they were merely just infatuated with each other. To be infatuated is to have a very strong and intense passion and admiration for someone, however this feeling is short lived. To be in love with someone is to have an extreme feeling of deep affection that lasts much longer than just being infatuated. Some may say that Romeo and Juliet were truly in love, but how can you know you love someone from the second you look at them? Over this period of time they saw each other, fell in love, got married, and killed themselves to be together. They believed they fell in love the second that they laid eyes on each other. This is a major sign that they were just infatuated and the feeling would most likely be short lived. There is no way they could have known that they would truly love each other forever just by their looks. The whole relationship occurring so quickly resulted in them not even knowing each other very well. They said they were in love before they even knew each other's name and the family they each came from. To sincerely be in love with someone, you have to know them very well and love them for the person they are, but you can’t do that if you have barley even talked to them. Lastly, Romeo and Juliet were so young that they were just caught up in all of the excitement and not thinking clearly. Juliet went from being totally uninterested with the whole idea of marriage, to wanting to marry someone she barely knew after only meeting him a couple days prior. This further proves that they were just caught up in the moment. They were both very young and had not really ever been in a serious relationship, so the first time they felt this admiration for someone, they jumped to conclusions and thought it must be true love. If they were have to been older and had been in more relationships, they would have known what they wanted in a person and they would know that it would take a period of time before they knew if they were even right for each
