There are some things that everyone can do, no matter the time or age. Everyone has been reckless, he said. Just like real people, characters make irrational choices which contribute to the plot. Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” portrays the theme that making impulsive decisions can lead to dire consequences. One example of this theme being portrayed in “Romeo and Juliet” is when Romeo kills Tybalt as an immediate reaction to Tybalt killing Mercutio. “You won’t be executed, but will be banished from Verona” (Shakespeare 3.3.11-12). This expresses the unwillingness of Juliet to marry Paris, it is so great that she would rather kill herself than do so. Their decision to get married was quick and without the thought of the problems they would later face or how their marriage could look in the future. The love she has for Romeo is so strong she will go to the ends of the earth to stay loyal to him. Juliet would be committing adultery every time she lies with Paris and because of this, the Friar is not able to marry them. This puts both the Friar and Juliet in a pickle as the Friar would have to confess, bringing shame on him as he knows he should not have joined their hands, and Juliet, for she is married to her sworn enemy.
