Romeo and Juliet Essay Everyone has a person they admire in life. It could either be a relative, actor, or sports player that motivates or inspires them. Shakespeare writes Juliet’s mentor in Romeo and Juliet as her caretaker. The Nurse is the closest to Juliet, and she guides Juliet through her life. The Nurse is a fitting mentor for Juliet since she bestows knowledge, offers advice, and comforts Juliet. As a good mentor, the Nurse endows Juliet with information and insight. After Juliet kisses Romeo, the Nurse informs Juliet, “His name is Romeo, and a Montague, The only son of your great enemy” (1.5.145-146). The Nurse is able to reveal the identity of the masked man because she is well informed of the people of Verona. As her mentor, the Nurse briefs Juliet about information of their world to broaden Juliet’s intelligence and augment her judgement. In addition, the Nurse passes on the message of marriage from Romeo to Juliet, relaying, “Then hie you hence to Friar Laurence’ cell; There stays a husband to make you a wife” (2.6.70-71). When Juliet is forced to marry Paris, the Nurse “think it best you married with the County” (3.5.227) since “Romeo is banish’d” (3.5.223). The Nurse contemplates Juliet’s options and advises her with good intentions. She wants Juliet to strive for more and have a better life. Furthermore, when Lady Capulet brings up Paris, the Nurse remarked, “lady, such a man As all the world- why he’s a man of wax” (1.3.79-80).
