Shakespeare uses Romeo and his emotions in the play “Romeo and Juliet” to express how powerful, young love can hinder teenagers' judgment. After only meeting and knowing each other for about 24 hours Juliet proposes a plan for Romeo to express his love for her. She conveys to Romeo that he should marry her to prove that he truly loves her. Romeo states he will without hesitation. He runs to Friar Lawrence's house and states, “Then plainly know my heart’s dear love is set; On the fair daughter of rich Capulet; As mine on hers, so hers is set on mine, And all combined, save what thou must combine; By holy marriage. When and where and how”(2. 3. 61-65). Essentially, this quote from Romeo is expressing how Romeo is acting on his infatuation with Juliet and not slowing down to intelligently decide what the best plan of action would be. …show more content…

Romeo’s and Juliet’s families despise each other and Romeo is marrying Juliet out of infatuation and not true love. Here we can see a clear depiction of how the infatuation and powerful feeling of love are hindering Romeo’s ability to fully acknowledge his and Juliet’s actions. Therefore clouding his judgment and reasoning. Furthermore, another example of Romeo’s dramatic and powerful emotions hindering his ability of reasoning is at the beginning of the play when Lord Montague is expressing how Romeo has locked himself away depressed due to the unreturned love from Rosaline. Lord Montague states, “And; private in his chamber pens himself; Shuts up his windows, locks fair daylight out; And makes himself an artificial night” (1. 1. 133-135).
