The biggest or central theme of Romeo and Juliet is love. The whole story is about love. If you were to go even deeper into the theme, I think the theme would be that love brings many great things but can also bring terrible and tragic things like the death of Romeo and Juliet at the end of the story. Although love is very huge in Romeo and Juliet, it is also very huge in everyone's lives all over the world.

Love is a huge part of the world today. It makes us who we are for most people. As far back as humans go, love has always played a role in people’s lives no matter what point in history. There are different kinds of love as well. For example, love between you and your family is different than love between you and another person. Love between you and your family occurs because you have known them for so long, and you become close for that reason. You can love somebody in a friendly way because they are close to and have gone through things with you. In Act III, Scene 3 from lines 29-30, Romeo says “Tis torture, and not mercy. Heaven is here, Where Juliet lives,” after he discovers he was banished from Verona. This portrays the terrible things that comes from love. Romeo is unhappy because he cannot be with Juliet. Also in Act II, Scene 2 from lines 2-3, Romeo says “But soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the East, and Juliet is the sun,” when he goes to admire her beauty in the middle of the night by comparing her to the sun. The portrays the positive side of love because it shows what kind of effect love can have on people even though he just met her like a day before he said this.
