Sophie Young Mrs. Lord Pre AP English-9 March 1, 2023 Romeo’s Personality Traits In the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, two young lovers sacrifice their lives for each other. This play was created by William Shakespeare. The argument that follows why Romeo and Juliet took their lives is unanswered. Some people say it was society, their parents, or even Juliet’s fault. Romeo is confused, unhappy, and determined. When young boys start to enter their teen years they start to experiment with love. Romeo, like any other boy, fell for a young girl named Rosaline. Rosaline believed in Chasity and did not love Romeo back. Romeo became depressed and disappeared into the woods at night. Even when he met Juliet, he was confused as why society said they couldn’t be together. The quote, “Love is a smoke raised with the fume of sighs; Being purged, a fire sparkling in lovers’ tears” Shakespeare 1.1 183-184), shows Romeo’s confusion about love. He’s confused as why the universe believes he should not be capable of love. But, Romeo was not going to have people tell him what to do. …show more content…

Anytime Romeo becomes some-what happy, something always interferes with it. When Romeo coped with his dissatisfactions he would cry alone in the woods, not ask for anyone’s help, and be hard-headed. He showed interest in Rosaline, but she didn’t show affection toward Romeo. He then lied his eyes on Juliet and effaced Rosaline from his mind. The only thing that was keeping them apart, was the rivalry between their last names. The quote, “Is it e’en so? Then I defy you, stars!” Shakespeare 5.1 24), shows Romeo’s heartache. He is full of grief and angry with the stars for letting Juliet “die”. Anytime he becomes slightly pleased it gets ripped away and he becomes robbed of
