At the start of the play, Romeo had another infatuation with Rosaline. However, Rosaline rejected Romeo, leaving him with melancholic feelings (Schoolworkhelper). While still harping on Rosaline, Romeo expresses, “Her beauty is like a note telling me where I can see someone even more beautiful. Goodbye. You can’t teach me to forget” (Act I, Scene I, Lines 229-231). Although these words were spoken before he met with Juliet, Romeo’s words give the idea that Romeo will always have feelings toward Rosaline.
