Romeo and Juliet is a story about forbidden love and loss. Romeo meets Juliet at a party and immediately falls in love. However, they shouldn’t be together because they come from two rival families, the Montagues and Capulets. They got married in secret anyways, but a lot of problems arose. They both end up killing themselves. Romeo and Juliet’s deaths could’ve been avoided, but fate and flaws led them to their deaths. Romeo’s flaw played the biggest role in their fate. His tragic flaw was his impulsiveness. He let his emotions control him and didn’t think about what he was doing. Juliet had a plan for faking her death, but it didn’t work. She drank the sleeping potion and everyone thought she was dead. A messenger was supposed to tell Romeo about the fake death, but he couldn’t get the message to Romeo. When Romeo hears the news, he goes to the tomb to see her one last time. He brought a poison because he was going to kill himself after he saw her. He saw her and thought she looked too beautiful to be dead. Because of his impulsiveness, he drinks the poison and kills himself, not even thinking that she could still be alive even though she didn’t seem dead. When Juliet wakes up, she finds that Romeo is dead. Instead of leaving with the Friar, she stabs herself with Romeo’s knife because of her love for him. They both thought they couldn’t live without the other. Even though their fate was to die, there were some ways they could’ve avoided it. If Romeo didn’t jump to conclusions, he could’ve seen that Juliet was still alive. He also could’ve gone to the Friar and asked him about Juliet. The Friar also could’ve gotten to the tomb earlier to tell Romeo that she was still alive. Instead of faking her death, Juliet could’ve left with Romeo when he was banished, and they could’ve lived a life together away from the feuding families.
