Khushi Patel Period 2 Due date: April 19, 2018 Journal #1 In the first two scenes of Romeo and Juliet, we see Romeo is heartbroken over Rosaline, his "one true love". I would characterize Romeo as handsome, intelligent, a romantic, but very sensitive. Romeo is depressed and sad about Rosaline.
Romeo was deeply in love with Rosaline and wanted to be with her and get married. “For beauty starved with her severity…She is too fair, too wise, wisely too fair, to merit bliss by making me despair: She hath forsworn to love, and in that vow…” (Romeo and Juliet 1.1.210-214) Romeo thought that Rosaline was everything he was looking for. Rosaline on the other hand did not care for Romeo, or from what the play tells us. Romeo moved on past Rosaline at a party the Capulets were throwing. If Romeo had not moved onto Juliet many, if not all, characters would have still been alive.
Romeo was deeply in love with Rosaline, or so he said he was, and he became extremely depressed when she didn't feel the same way Romeo felt. He shut himself in his room, and did not have any interaction with his friends or family. But, Benvolio being the nice person that he is, talked to Romeo in hopes to find out what was wrong. Romeo finally opened up to Benvolio and told him what was bothering him. As their conversation went on Romeo states, “She is too in love with Rosaline, or so her, too wise, wisely too fair, To merit bliss by making me despair.
Romeo is to blame for this, as he was madly in love with Rosaline, even making him depressed at some times, but instantly forgot about her after seeing Juliet, even though he knew nothing about her, and they even ended up getting married a day later.
He acts naive when he gets over Rosaline in less than a day. He then falls madly in love with Juliet after just seeing her once. Before he sees Juliet, Romeo whines to Benvolio about Rosaline rejecting him and how he is feeling, “O, teach me how I should forget to think!,” showing his naivety and immaturity (1.1.219 ). He is new to love and does not know how to accept rejection. Even though she did not reject him, she just is not going to marry anyone.
He decides to go to a party hosted by his family 's revival. He hopes to see Rosaline, the women he is in love with. When he arrives he seen a lady that makes him forget all about Rosaline, this woman 's name is Juliet. When Romeo and Juliet meet, they fell right in love. They soon found out that their families were enemies, but this still did not stop them.
Romeo is highly upset that the one he thought he was in love with, Rosaline, did not love him back. Romeo then decides to go to a party hosted by Juliet's family to see Rosaline. Romeo wears a mask to sure that the Capulet’s don't kick him out for being a Montague. He plans to make a move and dance with her but at that moment he sees the gorgeous Juliet whose exceeding beauty intrigued him. “When I saw you I fell in love, and you smiled because you knew”( ).
Rosaline never loved Romeo back which caused Romeo to go for Juliet.
The night before the party where Romeo and Juliet met, Romeo had been crying over his ex girlfriend Rosaline. However, after meeting Juliet he was not upset at all about Rosaline. When asked by his pastor if he had been with Rosaline all night, Romeo stated “With Rosaline, father? No, I have forgotten that girl and all the sadness she brought me”(Shakespeare). Friar Lawrence responded with “Have you given up so quickly on Rosaline, whom you loved so much?

An important character named Romeo Montague, known enemy of the Capulets exhibits many exciting traits. His hasty, blinded, and sneaky decisions are some of the traits which have led to his poor downfall.
Predestination can initiate true love in individuals, which means that fate controls true love and it is inevitable. While some people think that fate has nothing to do with true love, there is evidence to prove that fate has a direct impact in initiating true love. Romeo and Juliet is evidence to the fact that fate can initiate true love because it says, “Some consequence yet hanging in the stars… By some vile forfeit of untimely death.” (Shakespeare 23)
On lines 213-215 of act one scene one Romeo states, “ She hath forsworn to love, and in that vow do I live dead that live to tell it now.” Rosaline has sworn not to love, so Romeo claims this has left him feeling dead.
This is a reason because Romeo just got over Rosaline, when he sees Juliet he is somewhat using her as a rebound. “Out of her favor, where I am in love.” (act 1 scene 1 line 163) In this scene, Romeo is going on and on about how he loves Rosaline but she doesn’t love him back. Later on, he sees Juliet at the Capulet party and falls ‘in love’ with her.
If Romeo and Juliet had done anything differently in life, their love would not have happen. They would not have met. If Romeo hadn’t gone to the party, if he and Rosalina had loved each other, and if the two families haven’t been in a feud everything would have different. Romeo didn’t want to go to the party. His friends made him though.
