Rosa Parks was a very brave African-American woman who refused to give her bus seat up to a white man on a segregated bus. This was just the start to ending segregation. Not only did she help end segregation, but she fought for the right to allow blacks to vote. In fact, Rosa Parks was the first person to have a holiday honoring her. Rosa Parks has written four books about her experience. She also wrote about how she got through discrimination. She is a huge influence to both children and adults and is known for her bravery and strength. She also influenced the Civil Rights Movement. Blacks were treated the worst in jail. Rosa was very scared to go there, but she knew she had to stand up for herself. The bus driver named James Blake saw that all of the seats were filled up and white people were standing so he asked four black people to give up their seats. Rosa was one of these four people. The other black people moved but Rosa didn’t. She felt she had every right to be sitting down. When she was asked to move she said, “I was already on the bus, I don’t see a reason to leave” (Parks) . During the time of segregation blacks had to enter a bus from the back and whites entered through the front. Rosa entered through the front which for starters made people angry. The bus driver threatened to hit her if she didn’t move but none of this worked. She even refused to move for the police. She was arrested but later bailed out. She was found guilty of breaking a law. Many whites said the reason Rosa Parks didn’t move from her seat was because she was tired. She responded to this by saying, “the only thing I am tired of is giving in” (Roop, 49). She had been asked to give up her seat many times before and always did.
