Rubin Carter was a man whom which had to undergo punishment for crimes he did not commit that later lead to his involvement in others imprisonment. Carter was born on May 6, 1937, in Clifton, New Jersey. While growing up in Paterson, New Jersey at age 12 Carter was arrested after attacking a man with a Boy Scout Knife; The man was said to be a pdophile trying to molest one of Carter’s friends. Carter then joined the army after escaping from the Jamesburg State Home for Boys. There he began his training as a boxer, later winning two European light-welterweight championships. In 1957, He got arrested for stealing a purse and spent the next four years in prison. Carter then was released and focused on boxing, becoming a pro boxer in 1961 winning four fights in a row. …show more content…

Carter later, in 1966 was arrested along with John Artis for the triple murder of three patrons. Both were convicted and sentenced to three life prison terms. There he published an autobiography gaining the attention of many including Bob Dylan who wrote a song about Carter. However he was not released from prison until November 7, 1985. After he was free Carter wrote another book along side Chaiton and Swinton two of the people who helped release him. In 2004, he founded Innocence International and lectured about justice for those who are wrongly convicted. Before his death Carter wrote about McCallum’s case who was a man convicted of kidnapping and murder. All in all Rubin Carter .was a man who believed in justice and sought that it be made
