4. SCG Strategy

From the start of the incident, a log will be maintained by each agency to capture their decisions during the incident and a single joint decision-making log will be used to capture all decisions during the incident. Doing so will provide a clear picture of what decisions were made and by whom. In order for the SCG to gain shared situational awareness, a collaboration between all stakeholders is key, it is essential that representatives from each stakeholder engage during the incident and facilitate collaboration.

The best way to gain situational awareness is to be at the scene. However, that is impractical due to the nature of work required. The next best way is to set up a live video feed of the incident. This can be fed from Staffordshire Fire and Rescues’ Incident Command Vehicle which has roof-mounted cameras and additional cameras that can be set up in each sector of the fire ground. Staffordshire Police’s aerial drone should also be requested to provide a bird’s eye view of the scene. Gain a live aerial view of the site to determine the damage and anticipate any additional risks, the SCG can watch the incident’s progression and mobilize any additional resources to the
