SHARP Essay SPC Senart, Georgie N. Roster Number 141 SGL SSG Young. The purpose of this essay is to explain what actions I would take to ensure that sexual harassment and sexual assault behaviors are not present in my squad. To ensure this, I will take preventative measures through Educating, Monitoring, Intervening, and Reporting (EMIR) such behaviors. This will help create a positive and safe work environment for my subordinates and give them the confidence to know what to do in this type of situation if the need arises. As a leader, my Soldiers must be educated on the Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault Program (SHARP), in accordance with (IAW) AR 600-20, Chapters 7 and 8. This enables the development of trust between me and my squad so they can feel safe talking to me. In addition to educating my squad, I would monitor them by providing performance counseling IAW ATP 6-22.1, Paragraphs 1-17 through 1-19, to establish and clarify the expectations. The counseling will show that my squad members acknowledge that they have received training and education on SHARP and that they know what is expected of them and me as their leader. Next, I would observe their behavior and actions toward their peers in the workplace. This will help improve my squad’s situational awareness and empower them to act. Furthermore, in the event of a sexual harassment or sexual assault incident, I will take the necessary steps to intervene and report the incident. As a bystander, peer, and leader, I must take direct action, distract, delegate, or delay depending on the situation at hand. Taking at least one of these actions will help prevent an incident from getting worse and save someone.
