Samoa is a small, beautiful island northeast of Australia in the Pacific Ocean. The Samoan people heavily depend on their traditions and culture. With a reliable government and a diverse environment, the people have a long, enjoyable life. Upolu and Savi’i are mountainous, are covered in forests, and are bordered by colorful coral reefs. Samoa enjoys warm and sunny weather throughout the year. During the rainy season (November to April), temperatures can rise up to ninety degrees. Temperatures are around eighty degrees in the summer (May to November). Savi’i and Upolu are mostly volcanic formations. The island of Savi’i has active volcanoes including Mt. Matavanu. They have 13 years of school in total. Eight years in primary school, and five years in secondary school. Their homes have posts instead of walls that hold up a dome roof. Most Samoans are bilingual speaking English and Samoan, but speaking Samoan most times. Samoan people are always kind and generous to everyone. The people of Samoa have an interesting and out of the ordinary culture. A wrap around skirt, called a lava-lava, are worn by men and children. Women wear dresses or a puletasi which is a long matching blouse and skirt. Music is an important part of a Samoans life. Each and every one loves to sing and dance to all sorts of Samoan music. Samoans two favorite sports are rugby, and soccer. Samoan culture is fascinating in every which way. Samoans have strange, but entertaining and exciting traditions and celebrations. Many countries celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, but only Samoa has a Children’s Day. On Children’s Day, the children eat first at the family feast. Some holidays that Samoans have that are similar to the Americans holidays are, Independence Day, New Year’s, and Christmas.
