Nursing is a caring and compassionate profession. It takes a very special person to meet the needs of patients. I am proud to say I answered the call. I am privileged to provide care to the most vulnerable population the underserved. My community health clinical in nursing school was when I realized I wanted to work with the underserved population. I saw the desperate need and wanted to make a difference. In nursing school, I was the recipient of the nurse corps scholarship. The scholarship is rewarded to students that has a desire to work in underserved areas. I have made a commitment to work with this vulnerable population. I have successfully fulfilled my service commitment but my desire to serve this population has grown stronger. I currently work in the area of public health; because my desire to make a difference is so strong I have chosen to serve in two roles. I am meeting the needs of children in an immunization clinic and I also work with senior citizen meeting their needs for long-term services. Throughout my day, I am faced with the challenge of providing care to patients that otherwise would have no other means of getting the care and services that they so desperately need. My answer is I love what I do. I enjoy going to work. I leave everyday energetic to meet the needs of my patients and their families. What some may not realize is that the reward is in the smiles, the thank-you and the letters. For me nursing has changed my life. I have a new appreciation of life and I realized that I have gained so much from the profession. There is a definite need for advance practice and I feel I have what it takes to make a tremendous contribution to the profession. I am bringing a wealth of knowledge from my previous research career and I know I am prepared for graduate
