My journey as a nurse began after earning my Associates Degree of Applied Science in Nursing. Becoming a registered nurse introduced me to a career path that has kept me not only fascinated but also continuously engaged. I have learned that skills alone do not define a nurse. Their qualities are what truly shape them as clinicians. Throughout the years I have been able to apply evidence based practice and make positive impacts in my patients’ lives. After a couple of years working as an ADN I returned to school to obtain my Bachelors Degree of Science in Nursing. My current position in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has granted me several experiences that have influenced my decision to further my education and assume the role of the pediatric nurse practitioner. Working in close collaboration with nurse practitioners daily to guide medical and nursing care has provided me with a greater understanding of the role of the nurse practitioner. Nurse practitioners are able to assess, diagnose, and treat all while remaining within the culture of nursing. With focus on treating the patient as well as the disease, patients feel they are supported in their most vulnerable times. I am compassionate, inquisitive, and remain calm under pressure. These qualities combined with my desire to further my skillset and knowledge base are what will make me a well-rounded nurse
