To formulate an accurate evaluation and diagnosis of Sara’s case, it is important to first consider the cause, nature and manifestation of her symptoms that indicated genuine concern, and how it meets criteria in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual–5 (DSM-5). Combined with current research to theory, treatment and prevention of mental disorders, the aforementioned will then be outlined by the cognitive-behavioral and socio-cultural models of abnormality. Wherein, each theoretical model will examine directly, previous research on abnormal functioning, together with Sara’s presenting clinical concerns and suggested treatment modalities for her specific set of symptoms. Likewise, it’s imperative that the therapist be culturally sensitive to Sara’s rich history. Taking into consideration, diagnostic inflation and individuals meeting criteria too easily, Sara may have been previously over diagnosed. As a result, over medicated and getting too much treatment.
