In his essay titled Gay “Marriage”: Societal Suicide, Charles Colson discusses fervently his opposition of same-sex marriage. The essay’s main point is constructed around Colson’s belief that if same-sex marriage were to be legalized, it would decouple marriage and procreation and thus destroy the “traditional building block of human society.” He states that same-sex marriage would lead to “an explosive increase in family collapse, out-of-wedlock births - and crime.” Colson presents us with a diverse set of evidence including statistics, studies, and his firsthand experience as a prison minister.
This analyses that same sex couples should also have the right to marry. One of the reason why the supreme court sided with Loving was because “Decisions about marriage are among the most intimate that an individual can
When debating the legalization of same sex marriage, religious reasoning and accusations of bigotry often provoke obstinance. Instead of reiterating those arguments, William J. Bennett, a prominent cultural conservative, former secretary of education, and author of The Book of Virtues, focuses on societal effects in his op-ed article, “Against Gay Marriage.” Though Bennett’s piece conveys partiality, it also attempts to discuss this issue scrupulously to ensure readers will consider his argument and perhaps accept his implications. While some of Bennett’s word choices convey tolerance of the gay community, his rhetoric incites readers to accept that preserving society requires marginalizing homosexuals.

The United States legalizing gay/lesbian marriage and adoption was a huge step for the LGBT community. Even though people of LGBT can both marry and adopt, some people believe in the myths and stereotypes which suggests that same-sex couples are unfit to be parents. A growing interest in research studies involving LGBT couples and the wellbeing of children leaves people questioning if gay and lesbian couples can be appropriate parents for children. There are many research studies with evidence as to why same-sex couples are or are not fit to care for a child. One study stated that children growing up with same-sex parents fare just as well as those who grow up with different-sex parents.
As with antifeminist arguments, the growing presence of gay rights movements motivated a backlash centred around homosexuality’s threat to healthy family dynamics.13At the epicentre of this conservative assault on gay rights was Anita Bryant and her 1977 Save Our Children Campaign in Miami, lobbying for the repeal of a local gay rights ordinance. In her book, The Anita Bryant Story: The Survival of Our Nation’s Families and the Threat of Militant Homosexuality, Bryant employed a child protectionist ideology to denounce homosexuality in American society, asserting that “Homosexuals cannot reproduce-so they must recruit...and to freshen their ranks they must recruit the youth of America. ”14 Drawing upon the vulnerability of the youth, parents’ protective instinct, and the perceived importance of child bearing in US society, Bryant’s homophobic rhetoric gained significant traction within the religious right whilst expanding America’s conservative base. As a consequence, voters forcefully overturned the non-discrimination ordinance, marking a significant rejection of the gay rights revolution in the South. The enduring impact of this counterrevolutionary politics is underlined by the fact that antidiscrimination policies in Miami were not reintroduced until 1988, and in 2002 there
Brandon Woody English 3604-201 Dr. Reginald Martin 7/9/2015 Uproar Over Marriage Equality June 26th, 2015 was a monumental day for the LGBT community due to the Supreme Court of the United States deciding that preventing gay couples from getting married was unconstitutional, consequently legalizing same sex marriage in all 50 states. The response to the SCOTUS?s decision has been mixed, with supporters expressing elation to detractors displaying disappointment and anger in response to the ruling. Although I wouldn?t describe myself to be elated when news of the legalization of gay marriage was revealed, I am in support of the decision the Supreme Court handed down. I consider myself a supporter of the Supreme Court?s decision for the following reasons: the United States has long been a global leader on social issues; legislation in the modern era shouldn?t be based upon the rules included in archaic religious texts, and there are far greater issues that deserve the
A new issue is gripping our nation, indoctrinating our children, and destroying good Christian marriages, the homosexual agenda. These animals carry on disgusting habits such as falling in love or holding hands. The worst part is our children are beginning to think this is acceptable behavior! Oh, how we have failed and brought the evils of Satan into their lives! They have false hope of acceptance and are destroying American morals.
III) Homosexuals can provide the love, care and home that a child needs (Reason). A) Homosexuals work and know what it means to provide a home not only for themselves but for a child (Warrant). In 76 countries, it's a crime to be gay. In five of those, the punishment is death. In America, at the very least, homosexuals are unrepresented, disowned, or both. While homosexuals can legally marry their partner in some states of America, they can get fired at their jobs; barred from public facilities; blacklisted from their families. This cruel and unfair treatment of homosexuals leads to the firm belief that they should have all the same rights as heterosexuals.
Marriage is not about freedom and liberty. Friendship and cohabiters are not recognized by the state, and yet these are valid relationship people are free to engage in. why should homosexuals be given preferential treatment simply because there is a sexual relationship? Marriage is about society putting their stamp of approval on a particular type of relationship. Homosexuals are demanding the right to marry, not because their freedom to have loving, committed relationships with someone of the same sex is being denied them, but because they are seeking approval, respect and social acceptance.”
People want to get married because they are ready to take the relationship to a higher level of responsibility and commitment. The satirical argument made throughout the video is that one’s freedom is being compromised and ties, especially with the family are ruined once marriage gets in the picture. The video satirically highlights how individuals will not want to marry because of the huge commitments and responsibilities involved. This is ironic because, when it is decided that the goal of a relationship is marriage, it shows that the couple is ready to commit and love each other unconditionally.
