My goal and purpose for choosing Oxbow Meadows Learning Center as a place to volunteer was simply because it sparked my interest as a very unique place to have a job. However, my assignment was to identify sustainability within the environment at Oxbow Meadows. While reading about the organization and their relationship to sustainability, I started making a connection. A connection was made between what I was reading and what I had read about in chapters four and five. Those chapters discusses Community Ecology and sustaining biodiversity.
Oxbow Meadows has a variety of different species such as living reptiles and fish, a stream habitat supporting various plants and animals, a pollinator garden, and bee hives. Each species has a specific …show more content…

My other option was to conduct research about the center by examining animals, walking around the scenery, and making sure that the environment for the species were well taking care of. Though, it did not seem as if much needed to be done because of the sustainability in the environment. I adore animals and enjoyed learning first-hand information about various animals as it related to their habitat, lifestyle, and daily activities. I never imagined how involved a person becomes when volunteering. My definition of volunteering is providing a service that helps improve an organization. Whenever I agreed to volunteer, I decided to be a giver. My desire was to provide a helping hand by giving my best service to the organization. Not only did I want to help sustain the place, I wanted to make an impact in the environment I choose.
I discarded thinking negatively about volunteering for Oxbow Meadows because no one else decided on volunteering there. I thought it would be a substantial idea to step outside the box, get out of my comfort zone, and try something new. I never volunteered with animals only humans, therefore agreeing to volunteer at Oxbow Meadows was an altered phase in my volunteering experience. From my volunteering experience, I learned that facing the reasonability to help sustain and advance your environment not only benefits you, but it also benefits the world and other people, animals, and species around
