Springfield School District had a school board meeting on Monday, March 12, 2018. After the Pledge of Allegiance, Mr. McLaughlin reviewed the process of reorganizing the new board. As a paraeducator, I have never understood the inner workings of the school board. This was an eye-opening event on how professional the meetings are and the amount of information discussed. It was surprising to see the staff resignations listed with the name of the person, their role and where they worked. I also did not realize the school board followed parliamentary law and procedures. With this being said, the chair would announce a motion and then a member would announce a decision. Once this happened, a second member would second the idea and then the group would vote. After the school board meeting, I conducted research to increase my knowledge of how school board meetings are facilitated. When I become a certified teacher, it will be vital to attend a meeting a couple of times during the school year. This will help me to have an understanding of the school budget and the proposed cuts for the following year. Also, attending these meetings will give me a better understanding of the disciplinary actions taken if a serious student issue arises. Overall, attending a school board meeting provides information about what is currently happening throughout the school district. This is a fantastic way to stay up-to-date on the current issues the school district is
