Title

Abe Fortas makes a better argument due to his wide variety of rhetorical devices, contributing information on the circumstances of the case properly educating the audience on what’s being presented. Fortas’ management of rhetorical devices gives a clear viewpoint of different perspectives being confronted to the audience.
Abe Fortas uses superb diction throughout his argument in the Tinker v. Des Moines case. For instance, “That is the basis of our national strength and of the independence and vigor of Americans who grow up and live in the relatively permissive , often disputatious society.”

Fortes uses ethos throughout this excerpt when referring to the Tinker v Des Moines court case. He does this multiple times in this excerpt. This is important because these mentions of these districts could be used as sources or even evidence to support the claims in this excerpt. An example of this being displayed in this excerpt is in the following quote,“Supreme Court of the United States 393 U.S. 502 Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District No. 21. Argued November 12, 1968.-Decided February 24, 1969.” This is an example of prevalent amounts of ethos being used to add certainty to data throughout this excerpt. In addition to this, in the quote,"Students in school, as well as out of school, are ‘persons’ under our Constitution.“ In this example, he is using the reputation of the Constitution and the students that attend this school. The power and the reputation of the Constitution has a major influence on the reader's perspective of the argument, considering how the constitution is well respected and is honored by many readers. The quotes exhibited in this paragraph makes the reader conscious of what is happening in the case. Fortas management with providing accurate data throughout his discussion gives the viewers certainty on what’s being displayed. This also can confront the different perspectives relevant throughout the case. This can be addressed in the quote, ”School officials do not possess absolute authority over their students. Students in school, as well as out of school, are ‘persons’ under our Constitution.” This makes students feel acknowledged as their rights are being protected and recognized. Another demonstration of how logos show different perspectives is shown in the following quote, "It is also relevant that the school authorities did not purport to prohibit the wearing of all symbols of political or controversial significance. The record shows that students in some of the schools wore buttons relating to national political campaigns, and some even wore the Iron Cross, traditionally a symbol of Nazism." These quotes present the conservative bias of the school authorities, and how these biases are being used to discriminate against opposing ideas. Violating the students right of free speech.
