My name is Ranee Xiong, and I am a Junior at the University of Minnesota, Morris. I am a Human Services major with a Sociology minor. For my final paper for this year, I have to interview a person within this field, and I am wondering if I could interview you for my final paper. Like you, I want to become a school counselor, so I thought it would be great to interview someone who is in the field that I want to be in.
Schools regularly have many external professionals who work with them, and these can include: educational psychologists; speech and language therapists; specialist teachers; Education Welfare Officers; School Improvement Partners; and physiotherapists/occupational therapists. An educational psychologist is assigned to a school and they work closely with SENCO providing pupil observations and assessments, helping to plan the provision for those with additional needs. A school will have links with speech and language therapists who can work with pupils to help with communication, language and speech problems.
The ASCA National Model is an important tool that supports school counselors and defines their specific role in the school counseling program. The ASCA National Model (2012) provides guidelines for a comprehensive counseling program and defines focus, student standards, and professional competencies. The ASCA National Model unifies school counselors with one vision and voice motivated by improving student success. The purpose of this paper is to reflect on my total program experience, field experience, and how these experiences align with the ASCA National
The project shows that many historical statistics are estimates based on whatever information can be pieced together, not extremely precise figures recorded as the historical event in question
According to the Nevada Department of Education, the counseling department is aligned with the Washoe County School District counseling objectives. It explains that the goal of the counseling model is to incorporate and implement strategies to assist students, parents, staff, administrators, and community stakeholders in the advancement of the learning process, and to remove barriers which impede access to education. The Nevada Department of Education states that the State of Nevada requires that all public schools have at least one counselor with a prescribed caseload ratio of 1:425. The American School Counseling Association (ASCA) adopted the standards by the State Board of

Post-college, I hope to enter a program to receive a specialist degree or doctorate in school psychology. I want to become a school psychologist for elementary students to make a positive impact on students' lives by helping children learn better by supporting their mental health, learning, and behavior. Becoming a school psychologist will allow me to provide support, intervention, and advocate for students. I want to help students overcome challenges, achieve their academic and personal goals, and so they can thrive in school and beyond. School psychologists help create a positive school enviroment that fosters inclusive and supportive learning environments.

Some of the advantages of being a school counselor are, according to Ben, the challenges of working out problems with students. Ben also likes working with other people. For me personally, I think the challenge is a disadvantage, because when I am under pressure, I start to freak out. What I found surprising about A Day in the Life of a school counselor is that a person in that field actually teaches a class. Also what surprised me me was that school counselors do not have much time to be alone and think, they are always moving, as with any other teacher.
(Strengths and weaknesses of using the model (s in that setting). The therapeutic community model is very useful because it is a long term intensive approach, is holistic and good. The strengths of using this model in the treatment centre are, it allows accountability since at the Piparo Empowerment Centre when an individual/s of the centre confronts a member about an issue/their behavior, not only are they supposed to be polite in their approach but the individual being confronted is supposed to take the criticism respectfully and try to fix/change their issue/behvaiour. The TC (therapeutic community) model also allows everyone to work together to help each other.
My career goal is to work as a high school counselor, but specifically I want to work with special education students. I would be enthusiastic however to work with any high school students on a professional level. I’ve always knew that my future would involve helping others, and when I was in high school I never had councilor I could talk to openly. My guidance counselor made it clear that she was only there for scheduling and nothing more. She told me when it came time to apply for college that I was wasting my time

Like other professions in the mental health field and helping professions, counseling typically attracts those who are imbued with a need to help others, to make a difference in others’ lives, the community around them and sometimes even the world. There are many facets to a counselor and to counseling, some of which take on personal attributes such as personality, the values and beliefs held by counselors, and what they perceive their role in the counseling profession to be. Other facets involve ethical considerations in therapy, the importance of the profession, the value and process of change, important counseling practices and the value of necessary self-care a counselor ought to engage in. The role of a counselor is to act as a conduit to change and wellbeing in a client.
I believe that clinical counseling was what I needed, but I feel it could have been beneficial and helpful to receive support and acknowledgment from the professional school counselors on staff at our school. I believe that even if you feel like you may not be prepared to help a student it is important to at least acknowledge and address a students concern. I did not feel that I had a safe place to go at school when things were difficult because no one took time to acknowledge that I was not in the best
The counselors’ organizational commitment level will be assessed by the instrument developed by Meyer and Allen (1987). The instrument has three folds: affective commitment, continuance commitment and normative commitment. It is distinct from the definition of “professional commitment” where it is defined as one’s belief that the benefits trump the disadvantage of one’s profession (Brown & Roloff, 2011). It declared one’s intent to continue to remain in the same profession for the rest of one’s career, with overall satisfaction and emotional rewards, and to obtain personal growth through the profession (Farber, 1984). It has eight items for each folds with a total of 24 items.
