Many schools around the nation require their students to wear officially designated uniforms while in attendance at school. Although with uniforms students cannot express their freedom of speech, they still maintain unity for students and guardians. Uniforms can be beneficial to families in numerous different ways. People don’t understand the importance of uniforms, until they actually get in a situation and have to wear them. Professionals argue that wearing uniforms pose an economic relief to low income families, encourages discipline inside of schools, help students improve school performance, breaks the cycle of violence and is a benefit to lives overall.

Thus meaning that extra money has to come from their pockets to get more fancy clothes. Parents don’t realize the amount of money they spend on a couple items of clothing to make it through the week. School uniforms per year cost about $200 or less depending on where you go. This number is so low due to the fact of parents getting the same shirts and same bottoms for the same cost. On the other hand street clothes are about $600 to $700 because students have to buy multiple different types of clothes at different prices. A school in Chicago, Illinois witnessed on camera many students beating up a boy because he had on expensive clothing. The boy got brutally hurt and had to go to the hospital. The boy explained in the hospital that many children stayed attacking him because he wore expensive clothing and people always wanted them. An instance the same but also opposite from this one was a child by the name of Micah Scott getting beat up but for a different reason. Scott claimed that every day he got beat up because his clothes did not live up to the expectations of others. Many people teased him for being “Poor” or wearing ugly clothes to school.
