“Bah, Humbug!” Ebenezer Scrooge has changed a lot over these quick courses of time. He changed From grouchy to polite, and from confused to having an understanding of different situations. Also, he changed from anxious to apologetic. There are many reasons why Ebenezer Scrooge has changed.
By Scrooge learning that he can not go back to change the past, he starts to realize he can still change by changing his present self. By Scrooge learning that Christmas is about spending time with family and finding joy in the things that people have. This makes him want to spend more time with the people in his life. He also realizes how much he has compared to others yet is never happy. Lastly, Scrooge learning that his present affects him in the future gives him the final reason to change himself.
We come to learn that Scrooge changes with his attitude. One quote from the text that accurately confirms this is…“No warmth could warm, no wintry weather could chill him. ”(page 3). This excerpt from the text explains how troubled and insecure he is inside, using a metaphorical perspective. We, as the readers, can draw inferences and conclusions on how loathsome he seems.

This is not the case for Charles Dickens’ character Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol and Frank Capra’s creation of a character, George Bailey from It’s a Wonderful Life. Both protagonists are beloved characters, but have drastic similarities and differences. Ebenezer Scrooge and George Bailey are best compared by their outlook on life, time spent with the spirits, and each character’s transformation in the story.
Although skeptical in the beginning, Scrooge begins to understand why he must change his ways, and he discovers what he can do to become a better person. Throughout most of the first chapter, Scrooge is very greedy. When two kind men come and ask Scrooge for a small donation to help benefit the poor Scrooge asks if any of the prisons or poorhouses are still in operation, and the men tell him: “Many can’t go there; and many would rather die.” To which Scrooge replies with: “If they rather die, they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.” Scrooge was already being greedy by not giving money to the men, but he was also being extremely rude by saying people should hurry up and die.
Scrooge in "The Christmas Carol" shows how much he hates Christmas, and everyone he works with to change to a happy person with the help of others. Scrooge emphasizes, "What a fine day fellow... An Intelligent boy, a remarkable boy. " This is a critical part of this novel because this shows Scrooge overcame his dislike of Christmas and his entire disliking of people. Instead of rudely gesturing to people, he is now starting to act nicer, and more mature.
Throughout the story, Scrooge had encounters with children. In the beginning, Scrooge was unreasonable to a carolor. Towards the end, Scrooge’s development was shown when a boy approached him, and Scrooge acted generous. All in all, Scrooge was known to not tolerate children, but with his change of heart, Scrooge now cares for them. Scrooge’s past experience of being neglected by his friends in the lonely school affects Scrooge presently by feeling pity for his former self; therefore, he regrets not helping the christmas caroler.
Scrooge is actually happy at this time. The Spirit finally takes him to his worst nightmare. she takes him to the exact moment when Ebenezer’s girlfriend releases him. On a Christmas eve, Scrooge(whose father has died and now he has finally made his fortune) comes home from work and finds his girlfriend at the park on a bench. His girlfriend sadly goes off about how he never has time for her and his thoughts had been consumed by money.
Scrooge’s Transformation Essay In the Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, the main character, Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by three spirits, past, present, and future. When the spirits take Scrooge to the past present and future, Scrooge undergoes a major transformation Dickens demonstrates this by showing that Scrooge changed from a lonely, greedy man, that didn’t like Christmas and dislike people to a generous man that likes Christmas and was more accepting of other people. It can bring hope into people’s minds that they can also become a good and gentle person.
