In the play, “The Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens, Ebenezer Scrooge was very rude throughout ¾ of the story. Towards the end he brightened up for once and was very nice surprisingly. Everyone saw him as an ungrateful and grumpy man who had no Christmas spirit whatsoever. Everyone else was up to the spirit and so excited and he always was rude and miserable and made it roll off of some others.

In the novel A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge is a grump, grouchy, old man who didn’t accept Christmas to be celebrated. According to Scrooge, Christmas was a Humbug. He is visited by three ghosts from his past, present, and Christmas yet to come. They will show Scrooge the things that happened, were happening, and were to come, so maybe he will change his ways. If Scrooge doesn’t hurry and do something now he will be haunted , and eventually turn into one of the ghosts.
Bah Humbug “Bah humbug,” now that is the best phrase to describe Ebenezer Scrooge matter of fact is a phrase by Scrooge. Bah humbug is an expression used when someone doesn’t approve of something others may enjoy. Ebenzer Scrooge was a major character but he was a miserable man who only cared about money and absolutely hated Christmas. A Christmas Carol is about how Ebenezer Scrooge is offered an opportunity of a lifetime, to change his behavior, attitude. When Scrooge is being shown his life by the Christmas ghosts, he sees how his decisions have shaped him.
The first is Scrooge's old business partner, Jacob Marley, who comes to warn Scrooge of the dangers of his money-obsessed ways. He tells Scrooge that when the bell tolls one he will encounter 3 spirits. As predicted, when the bell tolls a spirit is there, a ghost of Christmas past. She takes him to the past and shows him his past self.
This resulted in him spending many Christmas’s alone and developing depression. After he immersed himself in money, his only passion, to avoid his past Ebenezer was deserted by his sweetheart. At 1:00 a.m. the night before Christmas, Scrooge was visited by the ghost of Christmases before. This ghost showed scrooge how happy he was then. The ghost also showed him where he started to go in the wrong direction. Later that night at 2:00 a.m., the ghost of Christmas present showed scrooge how Christmas would go that morning. The employee for Scrooge had a very sick son and would not make it much longer and Scrooge did not realize how bad he was until the ghost showed him.
After Marley warns him not to end up like himself, and informs him that he will be visited by three ghosts, the first ghost arrives in Scrooge’s home. This is the the Ghost of Christmas Past. The spirit is dressed in a bright white tunic and is holding branch of luscious green holly. The ghost shows him scenes from when he was younger. These scenes make a massive impact on Scrooge.
At the beginning of the novel “A Christmas carol” Scrooge can be interpreted as an archetypal villain (an extreme stereotype of a villain), this is inferred when Dickens describes Scrooge as an “old sinner”. The quote “old sinner” links in with the description of a villain as a sinner often someone who commits immoral acts regularly whilst disregarding Christian doctrine, considering the time the book was published (1800) committing a sin was a villainous act to do; therefore implying to the reader that Scrooge is a going to be a villainous character throughout the novel. Throughout Odysseus's twenty year journey he experiencing many things which were exciting, scary, or even dangerous. But, whatever the situation was he was able to always be the leader and enable him and his crew to dodge any obstacle that came their way. But Odysseus is human and is not perfect so he has challenges and disagreements but it is how he overcomes them which makes him such a great leader.
