Geronimo was a Native American legend who fought off the Mexicans and the Americans for decades until he surrendered in 1886. Geronimo was born in June, 1929, in No-Doyohn Canyon, Mexico. He and his parents belonged to the Apache, the smallest band of the Chiricahua Tribe. He was good hunter since the beginning and story says that Geronimo swallowed the heart of his first kill to ensure a life of success on the chase. The Chiricahua Tribe also raided Mexicans often.
Scrooge appears irredeemable in the novella, because the anecdotes describing his callous and bad behavior are more numerous and dramatic than those described after his transformation. The majority of the first stave was written by Dickens to show the reader Scrooge’s horrible nature. In Stave One, Scrooge is approached by two gentleman canvassing for charitable donations, of which he declines to donate. In an appeal to emotion, the gentlemen then inform Scrooge that many of the poor would rather die than subject themselves to the governments assistance. In response Scrooge says, “If they would rather die, they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.”
In the middle of Scrooges lifetime he would say “Bah Humbug!” To literally everyone that would talk about Christmas, joy, love, charity, and being merry. Scrooge Absolutely hated giving money to the poor in the middle of his lifetime, but close to the end of his lifetime he would give money to the poor, sick, and dying people. At the beginning and end of his lifetime Scrooge was a hopeful, wishful, merry. and some who would pray as a boy and old man.
Dickens explores the theme of transformation in his novella- A Christmas Carol- by Scrooge’s attitude to the poor and how it converts over the course of his redemption. As a result of his divine intervention; he changes from a selfish and self-centred man consumed by greed to someone charitable and caring. The most notable difference in Scrooge is how he views those living in poverty and the struggles they face. In the opening Stave of the novella, Scrooge is clearly demonstrated as apathetic to those other than himself.
Stave 1- Greed The main theme in stave 1 of A Christmas Carol is greed. The reason I think Scrooge is very greedy is because he doesn’t like to give and is usually self absorbed. Scrooge is also a very demanding man, he only wants the answer that he likes best. He doesn’t like happy things and his word choices are usually sad.
At the beginning of A Christmas Carol,Scrooge is mean, selfish, and greedy. He is mean, because on pg.9, he never donates to the poor, and he always yells at little kids. Scrooge is also selfish because on pg.12, he never pays a day wages for no work. They say “it's a poor excuse for picking a man’s pocket every twenty-fifth of december!”Also, another word is he is greedy,on pg.17, says he is caustic and cold as ever and never gave anything to anyone. He said “what do you want with me.
In the first stave, Scrooge, although he is wealthy, is such a miser that he won 't even allow his clerk to have enough coal to keep him warm. He insists on saving money by burning only enough coal to keep a small flame glowing whether the heat that it puts out is sufficient to keep the clerk warm or not. Scrooge 's greed is his downfall because he is so consumed with his money that he neglects the people around him, and when all is said and
“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach,” (Dickens 46) Throughout his life, Scrooge has mistreated, disrespected, and taken almost everyone in his life for granted. He simply knows of no other way to treat the other people around him.
Although skeptical in the beginning, Scrooge begins to understand why he must change his ways, and he discovers what he can do to become a better person. Throughout most of the first chapter, Scrooge is very greedy. When two kind men come and ask Scrooge for a small donation to help benefit the poor Scrooge asks if any of the prisons or poorhouses are still in operation, and the men tell him: “Many can’t go there; and many would rather die.” To which Scrooge replies with: “If they rather die, they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.” Scrooge was already being greedy by not giving money to the men, but he was also being extremely rude by saying people should hurry up and die.
Scrooge’s definition of man’s “business” is money. This affects him by making him mean, greedy, and alone. In the novel on page 5 Scrooge says, “‘What is Christmastime to you but a time for paying bills without money; a time for finding yourself but year older, and not an hour richer.’” This shows that Scrooge thinks his only business in life is to make money which makes him mean. When Scrooge’s nephew came into the building Scrooge
In the beginning the text states “anyway, Scrooge turns out to be the grumpiest grumper that ever grumped”. It shows that he is a grumpy person that can be very hard to handle sometimes. He is more head than heart so he is not that caring, loving, and thoughtful kind of person. He is more of a person who would argue and get angry a lot. He can be pretty greedy most of the time.
Scrooge is a man that hates Christmas and the holiday time it brings. He hates mostly wasting time when the Christmas time comes. He hates it so much that he wanted people in his work to stay and not stay home for Christmas that one day. He also dislikes giving to people in need of money and hope. He thinks if they would rather die then be put in to a work house well they minus will do it.
In the beginning of the story, Scrooge was a lonely greedy man. He also hated Christmas and didn’t like other people. One quote that shows that Scrooge was greedy is, “What
Which lead him into selfishness, and becoming miserly to others.” Scrooge was not so dreadfully cut up by the sad event, but that he was an excellent man of business on the very day of the funeral, and solemnized it with an undoubted bargain”. This describes scrooge as a man that was unlike, people passed by him and were in fear to even look in to his eyes. When two gentlemen approach him to ask him to donate to charity, Scrooge asks, “Are there no prisons?... And the Union workhouses….
Many people who are financially successful tend to give back to their communities or to some form of organization that helps people. In the case of Scrooge, it is only after he faces his past, present, and future and has his epiphany does he begin giving back; first to help Tiny Tim and the Cratchit family, then helping those in his local
