It also explains why his fiancé left him and why she never returned. This explanation illustrates why Scrooge was so mean and hateful to others, and it allows the story to come to life. On the other hand, Scrooge and Charles Dickens are very different from each other. For example, Charles Dickens was very sympathetic with the lower classes and “requested that one of the readings be reserved for working people and that they be charged only a small admittance fee,” (Warren 118). This is all while Scrooge is is telling the portly men the poor should go in prisons and workhouses. He also tells them that “If they would rather die, they had better do it and decrease the surplus population,” (Dickens 10). Another difference is that Dickens loved to interact with people.
In the movie A Christmas Carol, Fred is an important character who is easily overlooked. But he plays an important role to the plot and to revealing other character’s traits. Fred is Scrooge’s (adult) nephew and only family in the movie. The first scene in Scrooge’s bank reveals him to be a young, average man with brown hair and a big forehead. Although the movie doesn’t give us much information on his background we know that Fred isn’t very wealthy and is married.
It is a joyful celebration and Scrooge is shocked on why they so are happy when they are poor, He then sees Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit’s son who is crippled and will die if not given medical attention . Looking for Change Hurts Many film and literature characters fail to leave an impact on the reader. This is not the case for Charles Dickens’ character Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol and Frank Capra’s creation of a character, George Bailey from It’s a Wonderful Life. Both protagonists are beloved characters, but have drastic similarities and differences. Ebenezer Scrooge and George Bailey are best compared by their outlook on life, time spent with the spirits, and each character’s transformation in the story.
Scrooge in "The Christmas Carol" shows how much he hates Christmas, and everyone he works with to change to a happy person with the help of others. Scrooge emphasizes, "What a fine day fellow... An Intelligent boy, a remarkable boy. " This is a critical part of this novel because this shows Scrooge overcame his dislike of Christmas and his entire disliking of people. In these stories, it seems that what the characters truly find valuable always turns out to be something other than money and riches. In Tuck Everlasting what Winnie found valuable in the beginning to her was freedom and just wanted to get out of her house and yard, but through most of the story and by the end she truly found valuable was the friends she had made during her journey and her home, and even though in this story many people would find the immortality that her friends had to be the most valuable thing in the universe, she saw them as valuable friends than immortal people.
