Beowulf arrives and devises a plan to kill the beast at night when he comes to attack the soldiers while they are sleeping. When the devil spawn, Grendel, appears in the hall slaughtering warrioriors, Beowulf attacks him with surprise ripping the monster’s arm from his socket. The monster escapes and later dies. Soon after Grendel’s death, the warriors encounter his mother. Beowulf tracks her to her underwater cave and kills her with a magic sword.
Later that night, once everyone is asleep, Grendel enters Herot Hall to kill some of the men, but is instead mortally wounded by Beowulf. Because of Beowulf’s success and bravery, King Hrothgar, ruler of the land, gives him gifts and a feast in his honor. The second main point in the story Beowulf is the death of Grendel’s mother. When Grendel’s mother hears about the death of her son, she becomes angry and vows to avenge her son: “His mother’s sad heart, And her greed, drove her from her den on the dangerous Pathway of revenge.” (Raffel 1276 – 1278).
Grendel, the horrible monster, shepherd of evil attacked the people of Hrothgar for twelve years. Beowulf, mighty protector of men, took his bare hands and took the life of Grendel. Finally, the Danes thought they were free. Until Grendel’s mother invaded the mere due to the death of her son. Because of the feeder of ravens that Beowulf is he didn’t resist the battle.
Beowulf is unable to show the Danes the dead body of Grendel due to the creature scurrying off without a limb. The battle with Grendel prepares Beowulf for a greater challenge with Grendel's mom, after she avenges her son’s death by beheading one of Hrothgar’s dearest man. Without Grendel’s dead body and the loss of Hrothgar’s men, Beowulf sets off to kill Grendel ’s mom. The battle with Grendel was much easier for Beowulf due to the location of the fight.
Grendel’s mother is a being of strength and brutality. Feeling grief over the loss of her son “greedy for revenge” she ravages the great hall. Beowulf tracks her to layer and slaughters her. Thus ending her reign of terror and anarchy. Distressed mother lashing out in the only suitable way she knows; violence.
The horrific monster, Grendel "Like Cain, was jealous of the joy of Hrothgar's people" Grendel was like a "cunningly creeping spectral stalker" attacking Hrothgar and his people feasting on them like "raven-harvest" he killed the men also as some of the warriors "stretched in sleep, supposing nothing". For twelve years, this went on plenty of "battle-sweat" thus. Grendel's life was snatched from the hands of the mighty Beowulf. The Danes at last thought they had freedom from this killing. But that is only until Grendel's mother the evil beast had come for her revenge of her slain son.
When bewoulf was sleeping after the big fight with grendel, he had a nightmare about grendels mother, shortly he realizes she was killing many people quietly. Grendels mother lair was guarded by a group of sea monsters, but Beowulf scared them away. When Beowulf tried to strike her with hrunting, it cannot hurt her. Then he saw a sword and he uses it to cut her throat, but the swords hilt. Although in the film grendels mother never dies.
Grendel's Mother attacked the Danes when she saw her son injured from his previous battle. When the Danes heard the news, they started to prepare to leave Herot again if Beowulf lost. Due to the crimson red waves, the soldiers believed Beowulf had died. Like the poets have whispered, “All the greybeards, whispered together And said that hope was gone, that the hero Had lost fame and his life at come, …” (550-552). Saying how the people have officially lost hope again since Beowulf has died, the only one strong enough to fight Grendel.
Grendel is eventually defeated by the warrior Beowulf, who tears off Grendel's arm and leaves him to die in his lair. Grendel's mother later seeks revenge on Beowulf for killing her son and attacks the mead hall, but she is also defeated by Beowulf.
