Second Wave Feminism In Go Ask Alice

We recently read a book titled Go Ask Alice and the story is about a young girl going through a lot of different situations. She gets mixed into a lot of bad things, such as drugs and it almost completely ruins her life several times. We are also learning about second wave feminism and how women fought for the equal rights. In a few ways these two topics can tie together and relate to one another. Alice relates to second waves feminism because she is torn between becoming her own person and doing what she wants to do while listening to what everyone else tells her to do. For example, Alice knew selling drugs for Richie was wrong but she felt like she had to do it because he was a male and he could of been considered superior to her. She knew right from wrong but never used her voice to tell people she knew this was wrong. It didn’t take much convinced for any male to take advantage of her. She felt like she had no say in anything she did because she was young and a female. Roger ditched her on their date and she was still in love with him, or she thought she was. Roger came back and wanted her, she just let him come back there was no fight. He didn’t even have to try. So many men took advantage of her and she let them, she never stood up for herself against anyone. I would not consider her a hero in this movement for several reasons. It would have affected her if she didn’t die of course. She didn’t do anything that helped the movement, and she didn’t do anything that made it harder for people. At one point Alice was thinking about getting an abortion if she did end up pregnant but it was illegal at the time and they were very dangerous if you did manage to get one. People would die from it and Alice was nonchalant about it, she wasn’t informed much on anything that was going on.
