The Protestant Reformation of 1517 to 1648 caused the widespread tension of religious tolerance, in which some religions took a particular direction regarding their practices and arguments. While some leaders, intellectuals and radical reformers supported the idea of religious toleration due to their beliefs in its contribution to unity, which would prevent turmoil and unrest, rulers and nobles of great power and rank opposed religious toleration due to their fears of heretics and the treacherous effect they would have on the uniformity of their states. In document 5, King Henry of Francce addresses religious toleration in his Edict of Nantes, which was signed on April 30 of 1598. It granted Huguenots or French Calvinists, religious freedom.
I think that Secular Humanism should be considered as a religion because religion is a fundamental set of beliefs and practices, so you necessary have to believe in god/gods to be in a religion. If all religions have special rights then Secular Humanism should have special rights as well, just because they don 't believe in god/gods doesn 't mean they should be treated any different than other religions. This amendment safeguards American’s rights to freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition. By protecting our freedom of religion, the government cannot force a religion on the people and allows us to choose and practice any religion that we want to, how we want to. Since I grew up in a practicing Christian household, I can truly appreciate and place great worth in this amendment for defending my right to believe in what I want to believe in. Through protecting our freedom of speech, it allows us to speak out and voice our opinions on the government and express our feelings about political figures, laws, regulations, etc. By also protecting our right to assemble and petition, Americans can request for changes and adjustments
Like most things that are society based, religion has evolved alongside our own culture. America is a melting pot of different ethnic backgrounds and cultures making it a perfect place for religion to adapt and flourish. For this analysis, I am drawing from “Civil Religion in America” by Robert N. Bellah (1967) on his ideas of American civil religion. In the text Bellah (1967) argues that civil religion is an important dimension that needs to be recognized in sociology. While Bellah focuses specifically on the United States of America, he still gives a valuable perspective on civil religion and how it plays a part in religion as a whole.
A growing number of young believers are spurning the religious right, defying neat political labels and embracing progressive values. The religious right has lost its hold among millennial Americans. About 23% of millennial Americans are religious progressives which is twice the portion of those 68 and older. White evangelical millennials are also twice as likely as evangelicals over 65 to support same-sex marriage. I personal do not have a strong religious back ground , nor do I always agree with religiously motived laws, however, from what I understand is that, religiously motived laws can be pass. I would personally tend to lean towards the side of majority rules. The freedom for religion forbids the government in interfering in the person right to practice religion and the separation of church and state forbid the government in acknowledging one religion over the next. The Mill’s harm principle, simple states that, the only action that can be prevented are those that cause harm to others. This can be applied to why some religious freedom is accepted and others have been banned.
It is quite common in our life that when people are admiring a movie star, when would try their best to mimic his actions. For example, people would imitate his ways of walking or his accents when he is talking. Or, when we are talking to somebody, if his ways of talking or some of actions are really similar to us, we would feel affection from him or her. Why would this kind of situation happen? America should have religious freedom, because it is a constitutional right to Americans. Prayer in school, gay marriage, and governmental control, are among some of the main issues in this topic.
Secularism refers to the removal of religious contents from political, social and economic realms. The reason why secularism separates religion and government into two different spheres is to reduce civic reliance on religious laws and to protect the rights of citizens in practicing any religion that they desire. The concept of popular sovereignty is an idea based on the assumption that a few people are empowered to act on behalf of everyone else and this same idea is reflected in religion. A person may say that he has been empowered to communicate the wishes of the gods, or that indeed he is a god. Like the concept of popular sovereignty, religion requires the suspension of disbelief. If we take the example of Baba ram Rahim Singh ji insan who is a self-styled god man, People believed in him because hey suspended their disbelief as he made them believe that fiction stated by him was reality.

RELIGION CAUSES MORE HAARM THAN GOOD TO SOCIETY Religion according to the oxford dictionary is the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power especially a personal God or gods. Every human being in one way or the other belongs to a particular religion. Since religion makes us worship one God then it should be binding all of us. Actually it is not, it rather tears people apart day in and day out .It is true that religion has influenced society positively in diverse ways, but the bad outweighs the good. Thus I think religion causes more harm than good to the society.
