Starting in 1954 African Americans decided once and for all that now was a sweet time for a revolution. Since the moment they were forced to come to this country they have been treated worse than terrible. They have had to fight and claw for every right they have, and between 1954 and 1965 was an important war. In these years the civil rights movement changed the lives of African Americans for the better, it got the buses and schools desegregated, and gave African Americans the right to vote. In these years separate was no longer considered equal.
The Changes of Segregation “I have a dream” Martin Luther King Jr.. MLK jr. protested on how African Americans (blacks) were treated, for example they couldn’t go to certain place without getting arrested or beaten up. Without Martin, Kids wouldn’t be able to go to school, parents get jobs, or even go out in some public places without getting arrested! How would it feel if someone couldn’t go to school just because of what color skin he/she had?
Huey Newton, the Black Panthers, and Black Power People had been taken advantage of for too long, they were tired of being harassed and segregated, therefore the movement for Civil Rights emerged. People of all races felt as if it was time for there to be equality among blacks and whites. Throughout history, there was harsh treatment towards African American people, the Black Power movement was a way to stop that harsh treatment and finally feel equal. Huey Newton is known for being one of the founding members of the influential civil rights group, the Black Panthers. Huey Newton was born on February 17th, 1942, in Monroe, Louisiana.
The Civil Rights Movement began around 1942-1968. The main goal and focus of The Civil Rights movement was the elimination of segregation and for all African Americans to have equal rights and the same opportunities (Gates Jr.). Important leaders that were involved in this movement included individuals such as Dr.King, Malcolm X, and Rosa Parks who all made a huge impact in the movement (Janken). During The Civil Rights Movement many African Americans were mistreated in various ways. For example many civic leaders and general citizens were beaten by police officers for simply trying to vote.
Racial discrimination became a problem for African Americans throughout the 1960s. It commenced with the Jim Crow laws that promoted segregation for African Americans. Leading for African Americans to become segregated from public facilities and treated unfairly. At the time it was clear that in the eyes of Jim Crow and others who thought just like him, he saw those with black skin as unworthy and unequal compared to their white skin. Plessy fought to be “separate but equal” in their community.
Martin Luther King Jr. says he shouldn’t pay attention criticism or he and his secretaries wouldn’t get any work done. Although, he feels like he must explain why he did what he in Birmingham because people were being persuaded to the reasoning of the “outsiders coming in. ”King argues that you can never be an outsider if you live in the United States, because you must know your rights to protect to them. MLK was serving as president of Southern Christian Leadership Conference. The Birmingham branch of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference invited MLK to participate in the direct-action program if needed.

They weren 't served at restaurants and were to sit at the end of a bus. Some Jim Crow laws were that they sat at the end of buses and have different rooms.
Our society has been subject to different forms of injustice for hundreds of years, such as slavery followed by decades segregation and discrimination. Discrimination is a common thread in the United States throughout the years, and even though slavery has ended, discrimination continues today in many forms. People who have felt discriminated against have responded in many ways from the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s to the Black Lives Matter movement of today. Los Angeles in the 1990s was still a place of segregation that led to discrimination and racial tension. The Los Angeles riots (or the Rodney King riots) in 1992, were another painful but eye opening event in the long fight for justice.
Later in this passage, I will discuss the rights denied to African Americans in the years of 1930’s. Segregation, what is it? It is the action or state of setting someone or something apart from other people or things or being set apart (dictionary definition). Most slavery had ended in 1865 after that, situations got worse for African Americans. Including the legal system and police supporting segregation.
1964 was an essential time period for African Americans. During the time, discrimination and segregation were so dominant. Had it not have been for the Civil Rights Act, these issues could have divided the nation into one black society and one white society. White Northerners and White Southerners were racially prejudice. In the North, riots and violent fighting was something individuals would partake in.
Typically, people refer segregation to separation of people or the avoidance of contact of people. Discrimination, the unjust treatment of different people based on race, age, or sex, often goes hand-in-hand with segregation. Segregation can either be De Jure or De Facto. De Jure segregation is segregation that is forced by law, and De Facto segregation is segregation based on individual preference.

Segregation is the forced separation of humans from one another; the Jim Crow laws made segregation legal in the states that they were enacted in. A Long Struggle for Freedom). The Civil Rights Movement challenged the morality of Jim Crow and segregation. Also, it helped the construction of the “Civil Rights Act of 1964” and the Voting Rights Act. All of which helped improve equality in America.
