How did self-evaluations impact your self-awareness?
The evaluations brought so much to light. Over the years I have become more comfortable with self-assessments. However, on thing I have discovered along the way as I have grown is that looking within yourself requires thick skin. The benefit of self-assessments is having a strong knowledge of not only my strengths but my weaknesses and being able to share those weaknesses with those you work with builds trust. I have managed to do this through my network of colleagues and advisors but I must work more in trusting my team and revealing my vulnerabilities to them.
The leadership trait evaluation results were in alignment with my team’s perception of me. In the past, I have the separation between my feelings and the “job”. I have actually been criticized for this in the past by my wife who is a social worker. I

It makes sense that I would rank high in the technical and conceptual areas because that require diligence to learning and understanding things rather than dealing with the human element. I used to not be able to let tasks go for fear that they would be done incorrectly or that I could do them much faster without spending efforts on training, rework, etc. This changed some years ago as I reflected on the proverb “give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”. I have worked very hard and have made great strides and will continue to work even harder to trust my team members in the future.
