The Chinook Indians were a tribe of Native Americans who lived in the Pacific Northwest. They lived along the coast of what is now Oregon and Washington State. The men used bow and arrows for hunting elk, deer and sea mammals. The women gathered other food such as shellfish, clams, roots and berries. The Chinook were very skilled traders.
The name "Seminole" came about from the tribe's original name of yat'siminoli meaning "free people". That was the name the Seminoles had referred to themselves as because of their refusal to be conquered and converted by the "white man". The Seminole Tribe has long had a unique history with both the land of the Southeastern United States, and with the government of the United States. Their relationship with the land has been drastically altered as the result of three Seminole wars which displaced and relocated the Seminole tribe. As a result of the persecution by President Andrew Jackson, members from a variety of tribes in the Southeast United States began migrating into Spanish Florida to seek refuge.
The United States Government formally recognizes over five hundred tribes within the fifty states. These recognized tribes are qualified for funding and other various services through grants and contracts with the government along with other sources. The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians represents one of the federally recognized tribes in the United States. Located in eight reservation communities throughout Mississippi, it consists of almost 10,000 registered members. Throughout the past couple of years, the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has faced several financial burdens regarding funding for the tribe.
He fought the Seminoles in Florida in a war known as the "First Seminole War" in 1817 just seven years before his election into the presidency. The Seminole tribe was the only one of the Five Civilized Tribes to resist the government 's relocation efforts and they did so violently. The Seminole tribe resisted the Removal Act by fighting in the Florida swamps from 1835-1842. (Foner, 304)This war cost the U.S. army 1,500 soldiers, while the Seminoles lost only 500 members of their tribe. Unable to maintain their resistance finally in 1842, the U.S. government imprisoned the Seminoles and forced them to Fort Gibson.
The relationship between the United States Government and the Seminole Nation was strained the moment they met due to the Seminole and the United States going to war with each other. In the year 1817-18, the first war began due to the Seminole people protecting the runaway black slaves who had who were living in the Seminole nation. Due to the Seminole people losing and the United States wanting the runaways back, the Seminole Nation created the two treaties in hope the United States would leave them alone and would help benefit them more. The Iroquois Confederacy, also named League, is the organization of six tribes, including Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora, which lived in the northeastern woodland and shared common culture and language. In ancient time, the five tribes that are Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca, were always fighting to each other. At that time, Deganawidah, a man came from Huron in the north, travelled among the Iroquois and, through roof hole, he saw a man prepared to cook a victim. Abstract We love to hear stories told by our parents, grandparents, family, and friends, but for the Oyate, stories told by their ancestors are how they know and understand creation and how they came to be. Stories of creation, battles, tradition and so on have been passed down from generation to generation and are still being shared today. The Lakota people did not have a written language but they did use shapes and images to translate stories the best they could. The Seminole Wars, also known as the Florida Wars, are important events in American History that are almost always ignored or overlooked. They consisted of three individual series of conflicts revolving around the Seminole Indians of Florida and the United States.
One of the biggest and most powerful tribes in South Carolina was the Cherokee tribe. The were also known as the “real people”. THe Cherokee tribe was huge. Just one village could have over 600 people in it, and most of their villages were lined with a thing called palisade surrounding it for protection. Their leaders could be made up of men and women, and either gender could own land.

They inhabited Georgia, the Carolinas and Tennessee. The Cherokee were a fascinating tribe with intriguing aspects to their culture.
